Programme objectives

The overall objective of the Undergraduate’s Degree in Aerospace offered by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid is to provide its graduates with a comprehensive and solid education enabling them to lead and perform tasks of all life-cycle stages of aerospace vehicles, as well as systems and infrastructures required for their functioning, applying scientific knowledge and engineering methods and techniques.

In particular, and under the provisions of Order CIN/308/2009, of 9 February (Official Gazette of the Spanish State, BOE as per the acronym in Spanish, of 18 February 2009), setting out the requirements for the verification of official university degree qualifying for the practice of the profession of Technical Aeronautical Engineer (Ingeniero Técnico Aeronáutico), the overall objectives of this programme, according to the aforementioned Order are:

 

Objective 1:

The graduate will acquire competences for design, development and management within the scope of their respective specialisation in Aeronautical Engineering, in accordance with the knowledge acquired as set out in Section 5 of the aforementioned Ministerial Order, regarding Aerospace Vehicles, Aerospace Propulsion Systems, Aerospace Materials, Airport Infrastructures, Air Navigation Infrastructures, and any Space, Traffic and Air Transport Management System.

Objective 2:

The graduate will acquire competences for planning, writing, directing and managing projects as well as for calculation and manufacturing within the scope of their respective speciality in Aeronautical Engineering, in accordance with the knowledge acquired as set out in Section 5 of the aforementioned Ministerial Order, regarding Aerospace Vehicles, Aerospace Propulsion Systems, Aerospace Materials, Airport Infrastructures, Air Navigation Infrastructures and any other Space, Traffic and Air Transport Management System.

Objective 3:

The graduate will acquire competences for the installation, exploitation and maintenance within the scope of their respective speciality in Aeronautical Engineering, in accordance with the knowledge acquired as set out in Section 5 of the aforementioned Ministerial Order, regarding Aerospace Vehicles, Aerospace Propulsion Systems, Aerospace Materials, Airport Infrastructures, Air Navigation Infrastructures and any other Space, Traffic and Air Transport Management System.

Objective 4:

The graduate will acquire competences for verification and certification within the scope of their respective speciality in Aeronautical Engineering, in accordance with the knowledge acquired as set out in Section 5 of the aforementioned Ministerial Order, regarding Aerospace Vehicles, Aerospace Propulsion Systems, Aerospace Materials, Airport Infrastructures, Air Navigation Infrastructures and any other Space, Traffic and Air Transport Management System.

Objective 5:

The graduate will acquire the ability to carry out activities related to project development, technical management, technical valuation, report writing, expert opinions, and technical advice on tasks related to Aeronautical Technical Engineering, performance of the duties and truly aerospace technical positions.

Objective 6:

The graduate will acquire the capacity to participate in flight test programmes for data acquisition on take-off distances, climb speeds, stall speeds, aircraft manoeuvrability and landing capabilities.

Objective 7:

The graduate will acquire the capacity to analyse and assess on social and environmental impact of technical solutions.

Objective 8:

The graduate will acquire knowledge, understanding and capacity to implement the necessary legislation within the practice of the profession of Technical Aeronautical Engineer (Ingeniero Técnico Aeronáutico).
