The UPM is the highest rated Spanish university to study aerospace degree for the eighth consecutive year, according to QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Since QS World University Rankings (QSWUR) allowed to undertake an enquiry based on areas of knowledge of universities in 2012, the UPM has been ranked as the best Spanish University in the field of Engineering-Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing.

This allows UPM, and therefore, the School of Aeronautical and Space Engineering (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Aeronáutica y del Espacio, ETSIAE), the centre responsible for delivering training in the aerospace area, to become the best option when it comes to undertake university studies within this field in Spain. In 2019, it is ranked among the 50 best universities worldwide in this area, specifically in the 49th position.

The ETSIAE has about 4,000 enrolled students, 250 professors combining teaching and research, numerous mobility agreements with top-tier foreign universities and framework agreements with companies and institutions within the sector where students undertake their internships. As a result of all that, the ETSIAE is a national and international benchmark within the area of aerospace engineering. Official undergraduate, master and doctoral degrees are offered, and thus a complete and specialised training is provided across the entire aerospace spectrum. The Undergraduate's Degree in Aerospace Engineering is the degree most in demand degree within the UPM degree programmes and this academic year 2019/2020 the Undergraduate's Degree in Air Transport Management and Operations has been added to the educational offer.

UPM ranks among the 100 best in the world
The UPM ranks (as a whole) among the top 100 universities in the world within the area of Engineering and Technology, being 94th, and there are three other disciplines among the 50 best in the world, apart from Engineering-Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing.

The degrees within the field of Mining Engineering (Engineering-Mineral & Mining) take 34th place, and those of Architecture (Architecture) and Civil and Structural Engineering (Engineering-Civil & Structural) reach positions 41th and 45th at international level.

About the QS ranking
QS ranking, which analyses more than 4,000 institutions around the world, aims to give students guidance at the global level when choosing an institution in which they could continue their education. The academic standing of the centre, taking into account the opinion of academics worldwide as well as employers, referenced paper, and the so-called "H index", measuring the quality of researchers' scientific production according to the amount of citations their publications received, are some of the aspects assessed by QS while drawing up this classification.
